Midnight, Texas

Midnight Crossroad and Day Shift by Charlaine Harris

Books 1 and 2 in the Midnight, Texas series

These books are pretty interesting. I read them because I read most but not all of the author’s Sookie Stackhouse series. Plus I saw that the TV show was going to be released soon. Reading the first two though looks like the TV show is going to change a lot.

Manfred, a psychic whose power only sometimes work, moves to the extremely small town of Midnight, Texas. All the residents are shall we say an eclectic bunch aka an intriguing plethora of many different kinds of supernatural. All the characters are interesting and have a variety of colorful pasts.

It’s told in multiple points of view but Manfred’s chapters were my favorite. The books are pretty slow moving but the mystery of it all is pretty intriguing too. Everything is pretty slow though though and it takes a while to get explanations for what's going on.

The relationships are all really well done. You'll be rooting for these characters especially when bad stuff starts to happen. I look forward to reading the third book and seeing if it connects everything together/or explains more.

The TV Show:

I’ve watched the first episode of the TV show now and it was pretty great. The show seems to be moving a lot faster than the books. Plus Manfred’s powers are a lot stronger than in the books. This show is definitely going on my must watch list.
