Action-Packed Altered

Altered by Jennifer Rush

4 gnomes out of 5 gnomes

Science gone awry, a secretive agency running amuck, what more could a reader ask for? This is a great thriller of a read that you will want to finish ASAP.

Anna hasn’t exactly had a normal childhood. She discovers that in her Dad’s lab in the basement of their house there are four boys living in locked rooms. She knows her Dad works for the Branch an organization that is very secretive. Later she works in the lab and is friends with the boys mostly as she keeps results on all the tests that they run them through. Of course she has a major crush on one of the boys.

This book reads like a mix between a sci-fi movie and an angsty thriller/mystery. All the twists in the book are pretty transparent but it’s likely you’ll have fun anyway. There’s great chemistry between Anna and the group though you really do have to question some of her choices. It’s obvious that the Branch isn’t exactly doing great things and once Anna discovers this things really start happening fast. There are a lot of cat vs mouse type altercations that go on between them and the evil corporation.

Just when you think everything is going great there’s always another mystery. If you're not a fan of violence then this is not the book for you but if you don't mind your characters being a little more in the gray area between good and bad you should check this book out ASAP.
