"THE NEWS FROM THE OTHER REFUGEES IN the library hadn’t been encouraging."

"BROKEN WHIRLED, FASTER THAN EVEN she had thought possible, and decked the Black Band."

"MICHAEL AND MONICA SNEAKED OUT OF town under the cover of darkness, trying to avoid police, Black Bands, and anyone else who might be feeling nosy."

"TO MICHAEL’S CONSTERNATION, THE SUN rose directly in front of them."

"TIME CRAWLED."

"WAYNE LET HIM GO BACK DOWNSTAIRS AS night began to fall."

"SKY RANGER’S COMM CHIMED."

"WAVES WASHED OVER HER, PUSHING HER destroyed body further into the sands."

"THE BULKY GRAY HOPPER SOARED OVER the landscape, eating up the miles between New Jersey and Australia."

"THEY SAW A FEW OTHER BULKY HOPPERS, tiny, fast zippers, ancient planes, and long, looming liners as they streaked towards Australia’s east coast, but the real traffic picked up as soon as they crossed over the shoreline."

"BEFORE HE COULD MAKE A MOVE, soldiers had bound Michael’s hands."

"MICHAEL STOOD IN A MUSTY, PEACEFUL wood-paneled room."

"MICHAEL CAUGHT HIS BREATH."

"THE THIN MAN TURNED ON BROKEN."

"THE SUN STREAMED DOWN ON PENNY’S shoulders as she relaxed in an outdoor café not far from the Temple."

"IT WORKED JUST AS JANEANE HAD SAID."

"THE STARSHIP, TO THEIR SURPRISE, DID not land."

"Hello, Penny,
Michael Forward and others have told you about me."

  1. You know, I love these Sneak Peeks even more when they're a book I know so well...you look at things in a totally different light seeing just the first sentence!

  2. @Kate, they are a lot of fun to write because the sentences usually give a pretty good glimpse of what the reader can expect.
