Infinitely Intriguing

Infinity: Chronicles of Nick by Sherrilyn Kenyon
I won this book from Tiger Holland at All-Consuming Books Turnaround Tuesday Giveaway.  I give this book a solid 4 gnomes and a gnome hat out of 5 for being pretty darn hilarious and for having great characters that make you really care about them.  Here's one of my favorite quotes from the book that shows you the humor you can expect as said by Nick, "Yeah, may the smarmy freak get a pox on his privates."

Nick Gautier is fourteen years old and very sarcastic like any good main character should be.  He loves his mom a lot and doesn't want to disappoint her because his father is a murderer that landed in jail.

I like how this book is not paranormal right away but elements are slowly brought in after Nick is saved after an attack.  Nick doesn't fit in at school because he's dirt poor and his mom tends to make him wear unfortunately ugly shirts like a bright orange one with trouts on it.

Nick doesn't even believe in the supernatural at first.  Slowly all the pieces of who and what Nick may be start to come together.  There's everything from demons that resemble flying monkeys at first glance to weres, zombies, vampires and to quote from The Fifth Element, supreme beings.  It's not all scary monsters though there is a love interest, Nekoda, that has plans of her own that may lead to Nick's death.

The book has good, evil and some things and people that might be in between.  Nick has a lot of hard choices ahead and some pretty evil genes so the question is can he continue to be good.

My favorite characters besides Nick are Bubba and Simi.  Bubba is super smart, fixes computers at his store, and the store and Bubba are the go to place for weapons or advice on how to fight supernatural things.  Simi is a Charonte demon who carries around barbecue sauce to eat with people, zombies, etc...

There is an awesome twist to the story that I sure didn't see coming.  I actually said, "What" out loud and had to reread the page again.  This book leaves you with quite the ending and I know I can't wait to keep reading more.

Nekoda, eh? That would be a new character to me... I honestly thought it would be Simi... I love Simi!!! :)
